When the sun begins to slowly come down…
An hour or two before sunset…
That is when I begin to wake up.
As the sun sets, my body rises from its deep slumber…
Awake, ready to begin my evening,
Breakfast, lunch, dinner in the comfort of the night…
Like a bat, moth, coyote, skunk or wolf.
I awaken during the night…
Counterclockwise to the rest of the world.
Daytime is for sleep.
As the sun rises I fall.
We work in harmony.
When it has completed, I take over, we take shifts.
The nighttime is my friend…
My source of light.
It matches my body,
Every cell vibrant.
Everything is alive then…
While all that is not me sleeps.
There is something special about the time when the sun sets,
Maybe because it is calling me to wake,
“Your time is beginning.”
A time for quiet, fun, and peace.
Where among certain creatures life begins.
The moon is my sun…my warmth, my light,
& when absent…the stars.
This is the time my body can dance, play, focus, work, have fun, be…the most.
This is when I am awake with my fellow owls,
We share the same spirit…
One spirit…
A nocturnal spirit.
